Volunteer with us

Help more children get a place

Our waiting list is long because we need more adults. Every new volunteer means more children can join. You don't need any experience, and you can start small.

Why we need you

Every one of our sections is run by volunteers. The Scouts set a minimum number of adults for every meeting, so the number of children we can take depends on the number of adults we have.

When we're short of helpers, meetings get cancelled and the waiting list gets longer. When we have enough, we can say yes to more families. Even a couple of evenings a term makes a real difference.

Ways to help

Pick whatever suits you. Most people start as a parent helper.

Parent helper

2 evenings a term

Be an extra pair of hands on a meeting night. The leaders plan the evening and you help it run. It's about 3 hours a term, and a great way to see what your child gets up to.

Regular helper

Most weeks, or every other week

Help at one section on a regular basis, working alongside the leaders. As you get more involved, the Scouts give you free training, and some helpers go on to become leaders themselves.

Behind the scenes

Fits around you

Not a "run games in a hall" person? The group also needs a treasurer, trustees and help with kit, fundraising, the website and our Christmas tree sale. A lot of it can be done from home.

Want to see everything? Here's the full list of volunteer roles on the Scouts website.

What to expect

No experience needed

Most of our volunteers had never done anything like it before they started. You'll always be working alongside people who have.

Start small

Try a couple of evenings as a parent helper first. If you enjoy it, there's more you can do. If life gets busy, you can step back.

Free training

The Scouts provide free training for volunteers, much of it online, so you can learn at your own pace.

Checks arranged for you

If your role needs a background (DBS) check, we'll arrange it, and it won't cost you anything.

Tell us you're interested

This isn't a commitment. Leave your details and a leader will get in touch for a friendly chat about what would suit you.
